The Houthi attacks on the American forces will increase in both intensity and destructive power. This was stated to Izvestia by a member of the political bureau of Ansar Allah (Houthis), Khuzam al-Assad. The movement believes that this will be a legitimate response to the aggression against Yemen by the United States. In addition, they added that the shelling of Israel will not stop until the cessation of hostilities in Gaza. On April 13, the rebels announced massive strikes on Israeli territory. On the evening of the same day, the US Air Force launched a series of airstrikes against Houthi targets near the airport of Sanaa— the capital of the republic.

The Houthis will step up attacks on the American army

Yemen remains divided between the three largest political forces. The alliance, led by the Houthi Ansar Allah movement, is based in the capital Sanaa and controls about 70-80% of the country's population. It is his facilities that have been regularly shelled by the US Armed Forces in recent weeks.

— American aggressors supporting Israel are attacking our country, mainly in civilian areas, especially densely populated neighborhoods, and humanitarian facilities such as water tanks, hospitals, and communications. And also through empty mountainous and desert areas," said Khuzam al-Asad.

He stressed that the current US aggression, regardless of its scale and degree of escalation, will not affect the Houthis' position in support of Palestine. Moreover, according to Ansar Allah, the movement's military operations continue deep inside Israeli territory. The purpose of these attacks, according to the Houthi representative, is to put pressure on Israel to stop the fighting and provide humanitarian aid to the Gazans.

American military units stationed in the northern part of the Red Sea also remain the target of attacks. The movement emphasizes: These forces are directly involved in strikes on Yemeni territory and, therefore, are considered legitimate targets for Ansar Allah.

"Opposing American aggression, which supports the Israeli entity, will become a legitimate right of Yemen and will increase in both intensity and destructive force until this aggression stops," added Khuzam al—Assad.

According to him, the United States is directly linking the end of its campaign against Yemen with the end of the Houthi attacks on Israel. However, Ansar Allah insists that this can be achieved only if the Israeli aggression in Gaza is completely stopped and the blockade of the sector is lifted. Otherwise, the Houthi attacks will continue on both Israel and American military installations in the region.

—As for international shipping in the Red Sea, it is carried out as usual and safely around the clock, no attacks have been recorded, with the exception of attacks on aggressive American vessels," the motion added.

Escalation in the Red Sea area

After the escalation of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis immediately warned: They will strike at Israeli territory and prevent the passage of vessels associated with the Jewish State through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Since the beginning of the humanitarian truce in Gaza in January 2025, the attacks from Ansar Allah have stopped. However, after the breakdown of the agreements and the resumption of hostilities in early March, the Houthis launched attacks again, first announcing the resumption of attacks on Israeli ships in the Red Sea, and then firing rockets at Israeli territory.

The United States responded with a large-scale military operation. On March 15, by order of President Donald Trump, American forces began to launch massive strikes against Houthi targets. The Central Command of the US Armed Forces explained that the purpose of the operation is to protect American interests in the region and ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. In response, the Ansar Allah movement launched a series of attacks on the American aircraft carrier Harry Truman in the northern part of the Red Sea, using missiles and drones.

The movement's fighters continue to increase the intensity of their operations, including strikes against enemy lines and attacks in the Red Sea area, Yemeni political analyst Sand al-Sayyadi told Izvestia. According to him, despite the protracted nature of the conflict, Yemen's military potential remains and is even increasing.

On the evening of April 13, the US Air Force launched a series of airstrikes against Houthi targets near the Sanaa International Airport, the capital of Yemen, which is under rebel control. In addition, American aircraft attacked ammunition depots in the Bani Matar district, in the capital region. According to the Yemeni TV channel Al Masirah, the strikes in the area also hit an enterprise engaged in the production of ceramics.

Izvestia reference

Since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in October 2023, the Houthis have consistently defended Palestine. Almost from the very first days, the movement went to war against Israel, sending several rockets and drones against it. The United States has decided to respond to the Houthi attacks on merchant ships associated with the Jewish state. In December 2023, Washington announced Operation Guardian of Prosperity, in which American and British troops began conducting regular airstrikes on the territory of Yemen.

Yemen remains divided between the three largest political forces. The alliance led by the Hussite Ansar Allah movement is based in the capital, Sanaa, and controls about 70-80% of the country's population.

The Houthis' opponent is the Arab coalition, split into two competing blocs: one overseen by Saudi Arabia, the other by the UAE. The internationally recognized Government of Yemen controls about 70% of the country's area, including oil and gas fields in the southern provinces of Marib and Hadramaut, and is represented by the Riyadh-backed Presidential Council headed by Chairman Rashid al-Alimi. The pro-Saudi camp's competitor is the Southern Transitional Council (UPC), headed by General Eidarus al-Zubeidi, which represents the Emirati wing of the Arab coalition and is based in Aden.
