The successful rental of "Red Silk" continues, which does not slow down. One of the most anticipated projects of the year starring Yura Borisov has been released in Russia — the crime drama "Summer will End", partly based on real events in Yakutia. The audience will also see the new horror film "Monkey" based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, the action film "Kliner" starring Star Wars star Daisy Ridley, the black comedy "Nuts" and the Oscar-nominated animated film "Memoirs of a Snail". Izvestia — about what to watch in the cinema next weekend.

"Red silk" 16+

Director: Andrey Volgin

Starring: Milos Bikovic, Gleb Kalyuzhny, Gosha Kutsenko, Elena Podkaminskaya, Irina Alferova, Dmitry Kulichkov, Zheng Hanyi

The Chinese New Year celebration is over, but not at the box office. A large-scale Russian-Chinese project, the blockbuster "Red Silk", continues to be shown on big screens, where there was a place for a spy detective and battles on the Trans-Siberian express. In the near future, "Red Silk" starring Milos Bikovic, Gleb Kalyuzhny, Gosha Kutsenko and Elena Podkaminskaya will embark on a tour of 40 countries — the film will be shown in the Middle East, the Balkans, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

"Summer will end" 18+

Directors: Vladimir Munkuyev, Maxim Arbugaev

Starring: Yura Borisov, Makar Khlebnikov, Dmitry Podnozov, Alexander Mosin

The winner of the Mayak Festival in 2024 and a real event in the world of Russian auteur cinema. Among the creators of the film are Oscar nominees — Yura Borisov played the main role, and Maxim Arbugaev, who claimed the statuette in 2023 for his documentary "Exit", became one of the directors. He shot the new film together with director Vladimir Munkuyev and also acted as a cameraman himself.

"Summer will End" is a rather harsh story of growing up, inspired by a real case that happened in Yakutia. In the center is the story of two brothers. The eldest, Kesha, returns from prison to his native village, where he has his father and Tim's 17-year-old brother. To get into a normal life, Kesha gets a job at a gold mining company. Tim wants to go to college the most. Everything goes according to plan exactly until the moment when the Cache is "thrown". To get revenge, he steals the gold and goes on the run. But not alone, but with a younger brother.

The film by Munkuyev and Arbugaev is already being compared to Alexey Balabanov's "Brother". Why — we wrote about it in detail здесь. On the eve of the Oscars, "Summer will End" is also a great opportunity to see what contrasts Yura Borisov can play on. But, perhaps, this film was really decorated by Makar Khlebnikov, who played the role of the younger brother.

"Monkey" 18+

Directed by Osgood Perkins

Starring: Theo James, Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O'Brien

The film adaptation of the horror king Steven Spielberg's short story of the same name from director Osgood Perkins, who claims to be at least the most unusual horror maker of our time. Especially after his film "Soul Collector", which turned from a low-budget thriller into a real box office hit. The twin brothers, played by Theo James, find an old toy in the attic in the form of a clockwork monkey. And thus they start a chain of unexpected deaths. So absurd and meaningless that you involuntarily recall any of the parts of the "Destination". In fact, Perkins' new film is a game of sinister black comedy with a sophisticated audience.

The director himself pointed out in an interview that there are very few horror films that make you really think about death, but it is necessary to realize its inevitability. Perkins himself has a tragic family history. He is the son of actor Anthony Perkins, widely known for his role as Norman Bates in Psycho. The director's father died due to pneumonia caused by AIDS, and his mother, actress and photographer Berry Berenson, was a passenger on a plane hijacked by terrorists on September 11, 2001.

"Memoirs of a snail" 18+

Directed by Adam Benjamin Elliott

A new tragicomedy project from the director of the sad animated film "Mary and Max", created in plasticine technique, will compete for the Oscar in the nomination "Best Animated Film" in a couple of days. The main characters are the Australian twins Grace and Gilbert, who are sent to different families after their father's death. The brother was adopted by strict religious farmers, and the foster parents of the sister turn out to be people of rather peculiar morals. For many years Grace and Gilbert have been trying to reunite, while struggling with psychological problems. Yes, "Memoirs of a Snail", like other Elliot cartoons, despite their style, are not intended for children at all.

"Cleaner" 18+

Directed by Martin Campbell

Starring: Daisy Ridley, Clive Owen, Ruth Gemmel, Ray Fearon

Daisy Ridley, who gained fame with the release of the new Star Wars trilogy from J.J. Abrams and Ryan Johnson, expands her repertoire of roles with a rather old-fashioned British action film and competes with Tom Cruise, hanging from the glass facade of a skyscraper.

According to the story, in London, a group of eco-activist terrorists takes 300 people hostage during a party on the roof of the One Canada Square tower. Their rescue falls on the shoulders of an ordinary window cleaner, who, as it suddenly turns out, is a former special forces soldier. Martin Campbell, one of the authors of the James Bond film universe, directed the new action film, which shot "Golden Eye" and "Casino Royale".

"Nuts" 18+

Director: Dito Montiel

Starring: Bill Murray, Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Pete Davidson

A retired killer enjoys peace and relaxation in the company of his new young wife. Exactly as long as the past does not remind of itself in the person of a sudden ex-wife, their son and a couple of gangsters on their tail. This is an absurdist crime comedy with an impressive cast ranging from Bill Murray and Ed Harris to Pete Davidson. And the first question that arises when watching Dito Montiel's film is: how did he manage to assemble all these actors? Critics call "Nuts" a long-running comedy with lots of references to many popular projects, making this story more secondary than enticing. But the film will still have fans.
