The authorities of the Kaluga Region should solve the problem of overloaded urban transportation, deal with illegal dumping sites and increase the number of doctors. This was pointed out by Vladimir Putin on February 11 at a meeting with regional governor Vladislav Shapsha. The authorities in the region are actively helping the soldiers of the SVO and their families. In particular, a rehabilitation center for servicemen will work in the region.

What was discussed at the meeting

One of the main tasks for local authorities in the Kaluga region remains the assistance to the soldiers and their families: today more than 30 support measures have been adopted at the regional level. The region has transferred almost 4.5 thousand tons of humanitarian goods to the special operation zone. In addition, a rehabilitation center for military personnel with 110 beds will appear in the region. The Kaluga Region is also helping the sponsored town of Pervomaysk in the LNR, where water supply and heating have already been restored.

The number of schoolchildren in Kaluga Oblast has increased by 12,000 over five years. The number of pupils who study in the second shift has been reduced to 5%, also due to the fact that nine additional schools have been built. Four more will be opened in two years. In addition, in the region in 2025 they want to open a ballet school of the head of the "Imperial Russian Ballet" Gediminas Taranda. "Don't forget about repairs," the president said.

He asked what the authorities plan to do in the field of wood processing and spoke in favor of Russian wood processors. Vladislav Shapsha said that the fourth plant for deep processing of low-quality wood is already being opened in the region. "Very good, because we need to support those who work in this sphere, bearing in mind that there are difficulties in the world markets and with the realization of products. Therefore, of course, we need processing inside the country, which, in fact, meets our strategic goals," the president said.

All the enterprises of foreign car companies operating in the Kaluga region are already owned by Russian investors and have resumed production since mid-2024, Vladislav Shapsha added. "When the automobile cluster stopped, which is 30 interconnected enterprises, that's 10 thousand people of working staff, Volkswagen, Peugeot-Citroen and Volvo, three grands, we did not lower our hands <...> According to the results of last year we had 13 thousand cars produced," he said.

Vladimir Putin touched upon the environmental problems of the region: in particular, we are talking about 222 illegal dumps. Among other difficulties - congested urban transport and the need to increase the number of doctors in the region. Vladislav Shapsha, whose first gubernatorial term expires in September, promised that everything will be done and declared his readiness to continue as head.
