New "Mission Impossible", film adaptation of the cartoon "Lilo and Stitch", sports drama "Formula 1" - trailers of these and other projects were shown at the "Super Bowl" on American soccer on the night of February 10. Soon after the premiere in the U.S. all these pictures will be on Russian screens, so for our audience the appearance of trailers of these pictures means and new details of long-awaited projects. "Izvestia" tells about the most high-profile Hollywood releases, which very soon will be released in Russia.

The main movie novelties of the year

"Super Bowl" is not only soccer, but also a big pop-cultural spectacle, and an important commercial event. "Super Bowl" does have an impact on movie box office receipts. For example, in 2024, according to Deadline, more than 120 million people watched the game live and streaming. In the pauses between halves, trailers of the upcoming blockbusters of the year are broadcast along with commercials. However, recent Super Bowls have featured short teasers, which then go viral on the Web.

Commercials, which are broadcast during the halftime show at the "Super Bowl", goes with a large scale and costs $7-8 million. To pay such a sum for a 30-second clip can afford studios giants like Disney, Universal and Paramount. They were the headliners of this year. Sony, Warner Bros., Netflix, Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate skipped the Super Bowl.

Product promotion during sports broadcasts continues to be the primary means of reaching audiences going to movie theaters. For example, promotional campaigns for "Deadpool and Wolverine," which earned $1.3 billion, as well as the musical "Wicked," which grossed more than $700 million at the box office, were launched at last year's Super Bowl.

This year's event was a showcase for superheroes, animated movie remakes (but with real actors), dinosaurs and Tom Cruise. Super Bowl regular Disney Studios presented not a teaser, but rather an excerpt of the full-length trailer for one of the most anticipated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thunderbirds.

The plot of the movie is still being kept secret, but apparently it's a new look at the motley crew of bad guys from Marvel Comics. The cast is impressive, including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour and Olga Kurylenko. The world premiere of "Thunderbirds" is scheduled for May 2, in Russia, the picture will start shortly after the May holidays.

Surprisingly, left without additional promo two more future Marvel releases - "Captain America: The New World" (world premiere on February 12) and the next reboot of "Fantastic Four". However, the latter has not so long ago released the first teaser. Action blockbuster "Fantastic Four. First Steps" will unfold in an alternate universe.

But Disney showed a small promo for the remake of the cartoon "Lilo and Stitch". After 23 years, it's a feature-length feature film, with director Dean Fleischer-Camp in charge. In the video shown at the Super Bowl, the alien Stitch runs onto the soccer field, traditionally causing mayhem. The restless Stitch will once again be voiced by Chris Sanders , one of the creators of the cartoon. The girl Lilo will be played by debutante Maya Kealoha, and her company will be actors Billy Magnussen, Zach Galifianakis, Hannah Waddingham and Courtney B. Vance. "Lilo and Stitch" will be released abroad on May 23, in early summer, the film will reach Russian viewers and will collect a good box office here. The original cartoon is still as beloved, in addition, the summer - traditionally "dead" season for domestic cinemas. During the vacation season, producers and distributors do not like to release big, potentially box-office blockbusters, so more and more in the schedules in the summer you can see novelties on parallel imports. For example, the undisputed leader of last summer not only in the world, but also in Russia was "Puzzle 2", which came out unofficially a few days after the world release.

In addition, visitors to the "Super Bowl" saw a teaser of the new "Smurfs". This is a reboot of the franchise about good-natured blue dwarves. One of them - Smurfette - was given her voice by singer Rihanna. Papa Smurf is voiced by John Goodman. In the story his character is kidnapped by evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel, and the Smurfs themselves are sent on a rescue mission to Paris. Other voice actors include Kurt Russell, James Corden, Nick Offerman, Octavia Spencer, Sandra Oh and more. The world premiere is scheduled for July 18, in Russia the picture will be in early August.

"How to Tame the Dragon" and "Jurassic World".

Another premiere in 2025, the anticipation of which was fueled at the "Super Bowl" - a feature-length remake of the animated franchise "How to Tame the Dragon" from DreamWorks. The short video turned out to be like a trailer... a trailer! Universal Studios will release the full version on Wednesday, February 12, but in the meantime you can see what Hiccup and his dragon Toothless, created through the efforts of visual effects artists, will be like in the film. On wide screens in the world game adaptation will be released on June 13, since Universal is also no longer represented in Russia, we will have the tape in the format of pre-screening service at the end of June. Work on the full meter entrusted to Dean DeBlois - one of the creators of the original animated franchise "How to Tame the Dragon".

Continuing the theme of reptiles, the "Jurassic World" franchise has also entered a new era. We saw a teaser for the new movie with the subtitle "Rebirth" a few days before the Super Bowl, but the new clip gives a little more insight into the upcoming movie. The action will take place five years after the events of Jurassic World: Reign. The team of Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali embark on an expedition to save the dinosaurs from extinction due to a rapidly changing climate. At the foreign box office "Rebirth" is expected from July 2, at us it will not appear before the middle of the same month.

"Formula 1" and the new "Mission Impossible"

30-second clip of the eighth part of "Mission Impossible" is still the same excerpt from the longer trailer. But it seems to have everything the viewer needs: fights, chases, and Tom Cruise dangling from an airplane hatch. "Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning" will be a direct sequel to the seventh film in the spy franchise, which turns 30 next year. True, "Final Reckoning," which will be released in theaters on May 23, may indeed be the last. The previous film showed not the most impressive fees, and the budget of the eighth picture, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is estimated at $400 million. The expectation level in Russia is so high that you can look for the movie on the big screen from the beginning of June.

Another potentially interesting novelty is the sports drama Formula 1, which, as the title suggests, is about the world's most popular motor racing championship. In a short teaser, Brad Pitt presses the gas pedal to the floor on tight turns. He plays former Formula 1 driver Sonny Hayes, who ended his career early. After 20 years, his team owner, played by Javier Bardem, asks Hayes to get back behind the wheel of the car to help raise a new champion. Produced by seven-time world champion and F1 legend Lewis Hamilton, the movie itself also stars real-life athletes. The film from Apple will be released in theaters on June 25, in Russia it will be in mid-July.
