In the first days of the special military operation, Marine units fought on the Kiev direction, the former commander of the Pacific Fleet Admiral Sergei Avakyants told Izvestia.
- Then the airborne assault battalion showed wonders of valor and bravery," he noted. - The officers and marines of this brigade paid for all their awards and successes with blood and heroism. Throughout all these years, they have been effective, showing high combat readiness and motivation. They have worked on different parts of the front, but always in the direction of the main strike, showing high fighting qualities and courage. For example, in 2023 they operated near Ugledar, and in early 2024 they liberated the important settlement of Novomikhailovka.
According to him, this is indeed one of the best formations of our armed forces. And not only the 155th has proved itself during combat operations, but also the 40th brigade of the Talnakh Concentrator, which is also a Guards brigade.
Units of the 155th Brigade were redeployed to the Kursk region - they were among the first to engage in combat, stabilized the situation in the region and prevented the AFU from advancing deep into Russian territory. Military expert Captain 1st Rank Vasily Dandykin told Izvestia.
- Marines are intended for landing on the shore, but heroically fight on land as elite units, - specified Vasily Dandykin. - We are talking about marines of all fleets - Black Sea, Littoral, Caspian, Northern, Baltic. They are considered warriors of the three elements, because they not only land from ships on unequipped coasts, but also make parachute jumps. During the special military operation, 11 Marines of the 155th Brigade were awarded the title of Hero of Russia, and several hundred were awarded state decorations. The 155th Brigade is the successor of the 55th Marine Division, which was formed in 1967-1968.

In the summer of 2023, a Izvestia correspondent visited the training sessions of a group of heavy snipers of the 155th Marine Brigade of the Talnakh Concentrator. He learned about their work and experience accumulated during the SSO.
The tasks of the snipers are to destroy the enemy's manpower, reconnaissance, artillery fire correction. This was told by an officer with the call sign Chief, one of the commanders of sniper groups.
The fighters in this unit are required to have good physical fitness, as the weight of the kit, which includes a heavy rifle, automatic rifle, necessary devices, equipment and ammunition, can reach 70 kg. Often the sniper carries a weight close to his own. In addition, long-range shooting requires a person's math skills. And periods of long waiting in firing positions in readiness, without loss of concentration and with continuous observation require a special kind of character.
According to the officer, a sniper is much more comfortable working in defense. But the nature of combat operations is always changing, so you have to work both in position battles and in offensive operations.
